2011 Scholarship Winners



Amber Nicole Matula – Schulenburg FFA

Amber Nicole Matula the daughter of Stephen and Lisa Matula of Schulenburg and a member of the Schulenburg FFA.  Her SAE program includes dairy cattle, beef cattle, commercial steers and swine.  She has served as President of her local FFA Chapter, Participated in the FFA Quiz, Job Interview, Dairy Judging, and state livestock judging.  She has been involved in the local Young Farmer Chapter by assisting with their hay show, helping with the turkey shoot and she has helped out with the egg toss, cow chip contest and last year she was the speaker at the local young farmer banquet.  Amber plans on attending Texas A & M University and get a degree in Veterinary Medicine. 

Victoria Leigh Pilger – A&M Consolidated FFA

Victoria Leigh Pilger is the daughter of Adren & Susan Pilger and attends A & M Consolidated High School.  Victoria plans on attending Texas A & M University and major in International Agri-marketing.  I have assisted the A & M Consolidated Young Farmer Chapter with their fund raising activities of which they assist the FFA members with their programs.  Victoria has served as Chapter President and Area III Reporter.  She has participated in Chapter Conducting, Creed Speaking, Job Interview, Meat Evaluation, and Prepared Public Speaking.  Her SAE Program has consisted of Commercial steers, market steers, market swine and commercial heifers.  

Catherine Leigh Till – Dayton FFA

Catherine Leigh Till is the daughter of Richard and Becky Till and a member of the Dayton FFA Chapter.  Catherine plans on attending Sam Houston State University and plans to major in Agricultural Education and teach agricultural science.  She has been active in the Dayton Young Farmers by assisting with the Chapter livestock show and the Dayton Young Farmer Rodeo.  She has served as Chapter President, Area IX Secretary.  Her SAE consist of exhibiting the Grand Champion Market Rabbits as South Texas State Fair plus she has shown rabbits at many other livestock shows and she has raised commercial heifers.  Catherine has participated in FFA Creed Speaking, Public Relations, Dairy Foods.

Corey Gene Black – Fairfield FFA

Corey Gene Black is the son of Steve and Melinda Black and plans on attending Rice University and major in Mechanical Engineering.  Cory has assisted the Fairfield Young Farmers at various fund raising activities which included cooking hamburgers at football games, selling and distributing poinsettias and the birddog trials.  His SAE has included exhibiting market swine at the local level and all major livestock shows.  He has also raised and exhibited market goats and steers.  He has served as Chapter President, Sandyland District President and Area VIII Vice President.  Participated Quiz and was Area VIII high individual, Sr. Chapter Conducting, Livestock Judging on the state level. 

Hunter Choate – Athens FFA

Hunter Choate the son of Barry and Sandra Choate of Athens FFA and plans on attending Angelo State University and major in Agricultural Education.  Hunter has assisted the Athens Young Farmers with their Christmas needy family campaign which includes wrapping presents and preparing the food.  He has also assisted with their fund raising activities.  He has served as President and Sentinel of the Athens FFA Chapter, Junior Chapter Conducting, Livestock Judging, FFA Radio and Sr. Chapter Conducting at the Area level.  His SAE has included exhibiting registered Braford cattle at major livestock shows, and has commercial heifers.  His senior year he built a 20 foot low boy trailer he exhibited at the Houston Livestock Show Ag Mechanic show and won a blue ribbon and the trailer was the Reserve Champion project at the Henderson County Show.
